HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION NEW! Start celebrating early with a Halloween filled adventure! Come dressed to impress in your costumes to enter our costume contest. You’ll learn about spooky animals while you trick or treat down our haunted trail encountering obstacles and challenges along the way. Close out the day around a campfire with s'mores. The best family costume could win a visit with one of our animals! Fee is per child; an adult must accompany their child(ren) during this program. Infant siblings under 12 months are welcome to attend but do not need to register. Come to Lyman Woods to get a special, behind-the scenes tour of the ruins and remains of past buildings and examine close-up the many fascinating artifacts unearthed over the years at the preserve. Be sure to bring your hiking shoes as you’ll be guided off trail by our staff to uncover remnants from the late 1800s through the 1980s. Please register everyone attending. CUDDLY CROCHETED CRITTERS-FUZZY FROGS NEW! Love cute and cuddly animals? Then why not make your own! In this beginner crocheting class, you will learn the Japanese art of Amigurumi, the knitting or crocheting of adorable yarn animals. We’ll provide the patterns, yarn, hooks and all the guidance you’ll need to make a fuzzy frog and lily pad. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Help the Downers Grove Museum get in the holiday spirit by decorating their outdoor evergreen trees. You will learn about the history of tree decorating, make your own traditional decorations made with natural materials to take home, and even warm up with some hot chocolate. Please register everyone attending. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Snowshoe Rentals AT LYMAN WOODS
Let it snow! Enjoy the serene beauty of a snow-covered landscape at Lyman Woods! Snowshoes can be rented from the Interpretive Center, 901 31st St., Downers Grove, for $10 a pair. Adult and child sizes available. Call us at 630.963.9388 or email lymanwoods@dgparks.org for questions.
