Stories in Stone: Main Street Cemetery After Dark New! Explore the lives behind the headstones during this evening program at Main Street Cemetery. Guided by lantern and flashlight, participants will hear the stories of some of Downers Grove’s earliest residents—how they came to the area, the lives they built, and how they departed. This program meets at the cemetery. Please dress for the weather. Children under 16 must register and be accompanied by a registered adult. Explore the rich history of burial and mourning practices in Downers Grove through a guided program at Oak Hill / Oak Crest Cemetery. Participants will learn about traditional customs, symbolism, and memorial practices used by earlier residents of the community. The program concludes with an interactive scavenger hunt through the cemetery, encouraging participants to identify and interpret common gravestone symbols that reflect beliefs about life, death, and remembrance. This program meets at the Oak Hill Cemetery main gate. Parking is available along Glenview Ave. and Howard Ave. Please dress for the weather. Honoring our Heroes: A Veterans Day Pop-Up Exhibit Free! Join us at the Lincoln Center to honor our veterans with a special Veterans Day pop-up exhibit on our local military history and veterans. Please feel free to bring any mementos to add to our temporary exhibit. Exhibit will be open from Monday, Nov. 2, through Veterans Day, Nov, 11. Join us for a closing reception from 1:00 to 3:00pm on Nov. 11 to enjoy some refreshments and a short presentation on some of Downers Grove’s most prominent veterans in history. Please register all attending the closing reception. Get ready for the holidays with a program full of family fun and bring home a holiday door decoration. Each registration includes one 6-inch wreath.
