YOUTH LEAGUES

2026 Winter Youth Basketball League Volunteer coaches introduce participants to the fundamentals of playing basketball through practices and weekend games. The league emphasizes proper techniques, knowledge of the rules, team strategy, participation and fun! The Park District Youth Basketball League relies on volunteer coaches and every team must have a coach. Individuals interested in coaching should complete a Volunteer Coaches Form at dgparks.org/youth-basketball.

TEAM ASSIGNMENT NOTE Teams are created according to the following criteria: 1. School attended 2. Grade 3. Mutual Friend Request* 4. Balance of Gender 5. Roster Size *A non-mutual friend request or coach request will not be guaranteed. In general, our goal is to keep players from the same school on the same team. Should enrollment numbers and roster maximums not accommodate this practice, schools may be combined to form teams. Team maximums are based on enrollment numbers at the time of the registration deadline. Leagues may be combined or split by gender depending on enrollment numbers at the registration deadline. WINTER PRACTICE & GAME INFORMATION ƒ Practices Begin: Week of Jan. 12, 2026 ƒ Games Begin: Jan. 24 & 25, 2026 ƒ Teams will practice on a weekday evening once per week. ƒ Kindergarten to 3rd Grade Leagues will play games on Saturdays from 8:00am-8:00pm. ƒ 4th to 8th Grade Leagues will play games on Sundays 8am-6pm. ƒ All Kindergarten games will be played at Lincoln Center, 935 Maple Ave. ƒ All 1st to 8th grade games will be played at the Cathy Mahoney Recreation Center, 4500 Belmont Rd. ƒ School sites for practices are to be determined by the Park District. Because not every District 58 school is available for practices, some teams may practice at a neighboring school rather than the school attended by team members. Teams may also share gym space if necessary. ƒ Please note: A weekly practice will be scheduled for each team and is dependent on facility availability. Some teams may share gym space at a District 58 school with another team for practices.

WINTER 2026 REGISTRATION INFORMATION ƒ Registration Begins: Oct. 20 at 9:00am ƒ Registration Deadline: Dec. 1 ƒ Each season new teams are formed and grouped as specified below. ƒ Returning players are not guaranteed the same team from season to season. ƒ Leagues may be combined or split by gender depending on enrollment numbers at the registration deadline. ƒ League Cancellation Policy: All cancellation requests received prior to the first game will be assessed a $5 service fee. No refunds issued once games begin.
