Maple Fest New! Drop in any time during this three-hour program at the Downers Grove Museum to discover how maple syrup gets made over an outdoor fire! Learn how one of nature’s tastiest treats goes from a tree to your kitchen table. From tree biology and identification to the rich regional history behind syrup production, join us in a sweet journey into all things maple! We’ll have games to play, artifacts to check out and treats to try for the whole family. All participants must register and all registered children under 16 years old must be accompanied by a paid, registered adult. Interested in taking your family fishing but don’t know where to start? Join us for this fun fishing class! You’ll learn about the parts of the pole, how to safely cast, bait, and reel in a rod, and hopefully catch some fish in the process! Bait and fishing rods will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own equipment. Fee is for child/adult pair. Please register each child attending.

Natural Easter Egg Dyeing & Egg Hunt Spice up your Easter holiday with beautiful and bold, all-natural egg dyes! We’ll provide decorations, dyes, and several hard-boiled eggs for each person to color using fun and vibrant plant-based dyes found in the wild and even your kitchen cupboard. Staff will guide you through the process as they share some fun facts and games about the dyes, as well as eggstradorinary information about eggs and egg-laying critters found in nature. While supplies will be provided, please feel free to bring extra hard-boiled eggs from home for dyeing! Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Please register everyone attending. Diggin’ in Downers Grove Shake up your weekend routine with a fun family-focused archaeological dig! We’ll go off trail at Lyman Woods to get hands-on experience using archaeological tools and techniques to excavate the ruins of early 20th Century buildings around the preserve. Try one or both days to help uncover more mysteries and fascinating artifacts! Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Please register everyone attending.
