WILDANIMALCARE CLINIC NEW! Love animals and make believe? Then come out to our special one-day pop-up Animal Care Clinic for your favorite wild stuffy! Bring your wild-animal stuffed plush toy to have a special examination, to learn best care practices for your specific animal and different ways to help them in the wild. No wild animal stuffy of your own? Then check out one of our own for the program and give them extra love and cuddles while you’re here! Drop in anytime between 11:00am and 2:00pm to play winter games, make crafts, take a self-guided hike, and end the adventure with hot chocolate and cookies. If weather permits, snow shoes will be available to use. Children under the age of 2 do not need to register. An adult must accompany their child(ren) during this program. Fee is per person. Our local beekeeper will teach you how to order gear and equipment, as well as how to harvest honey and other products of the hive. Check with your local municipality to find out if home-beekeeping is allowed in your area. NEW! Curious about keeping chickens? Interested in raising your own sustainable and healthy source of home-fresh eggs? This 3-week course we’ll introduce you to the basics of backyard chickens, and the necessities for keeping a healthy, productive mini-flock. We’ll discuss how to choose breeds, set up a brooder, raise baby chicks, shelter requirements, regulations and ordinances, strategies for feeding and housing your adult birds and more! Children under the age of 16 years old must be accompanied by a registered adult. Please register everyone attending. Borrow a pair of our binoculars and join us for a fun and refreshing morning hike to explore and find some of Lyman Woods’ favorite feathered friends. Led by one of our expert birders, we’ll hike through oak savanna, prairie and wetlands to discover both year-round and migratory birds found in the Chicago region.
