TEMPORARY EXHIBIT Sears Kit Homes OF DOWNERS GROVE SUMMER 2024 TO SPRING 2025 Did you know that Downers Grove has a great deal of confirmed Sears Kit Homes? 68 as a matter of fact! Many of the examples here in town have made it nearly to or exceeded the 100-year mark. In our new exhibit, the process of how these homes were ordered, delivered and built will be showcased. The centerpiece will be framed examples of Sears Kit Homes which still stand in Downers Grove. SEARS AND HISTORIC HOMES WALKING TOUR

Join the museum staff for a one-hour walking tour of Downers Grove’s oldest and most prominent homes! Learn about the families who lived in the houses and the history of architectural styles ranging from Sears kit homes to mortise-and-tenon Greek Revival-style homes. All parts of the tour may not be ADA accessible. Tour meets at the Downers Grove Museum. All children must be registered and supervised by a registered adult. Join the museum staff on a leisurely 75-minute narrated bus tour of Sears and other catalog homes that are still standing in Downers Grove. All participants must be registered as bus space is limited, and all children under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult.
