MOTHER NATURE’S OL’-FASHIONED SWEETSHOP Let your taste buds lead you into the past with a tempting journey into the world of old-fashioned candies and sweets! We’ll explore the history behind our love of sugary treats from ancient times to the Victorian era, and even make some of your very own to eat and take home using all-natural herbs and sweeteners pulled straight from our garden. Please register everyone attending. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Learn to use materials found in nature to make forts, from dugout sod houses, branch barracks, wattle fencing and more in this family-focused program on outdoor play spaces. End the program with a dinner of hot dogs and s’mores around the campfire. Price is per person. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Please register everyone attending. EARLY BIRDS - BIRDING HIKES

The early birds get the worm! Borrow a pair of our binoculars and join us for a fun and refreshing morning hike to explore and find some of Lyman Woods’ favorite feathered friends. Led by one of our expert birders, we’ll hike through oak savanna, prairie and wetlands to discover both year-round and migratory birds found in the Chicago Region. Each program will highlight special topics in birding and ornithology. Great for those interested in birds or photography! Please register everyone attending. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Put your coloring skills to the test and join us for our Annual Fall Bird Coloring Contest! Participants will have several species of native bird coloring sheets to choose from as we celebrate fall bird migration season! Coloring sheets and contest details will be emailed on Friday, Sept. 26. All submissions are due by Friday, Oct. 10. Submissions will be displayed in our nature center, while select category winners will be showcased on our trails. All submissions will be on display from mid-October through the end of November. Sign up by the appropriate age category below. Winners will be announced in mid-October. Prize options may include Lyman Woods honey, a free private nature program, animal-made art and more!
